Last Thursday night, the City Council approved the budget for Fiscal Year 2013, which included restorations to cuts proposed by the Mayor to a range of services for our most vulnerable populations, most notably New York City’s children. After negotiations between the Council and the Bloomberg administration, deep cuts to after school and child care programs were averted, as were cuts to parks, case management services for seniors and fire engine companies.
The budget also includes millions of dollars in funding secured by Melissa for programs and capital projects in our community. We have created a report on this year’s budget, the restorations made by the Council and the funds Melissa secured for Council District 8. Click here to download the report.
We have also created a map of all the exciting capital projects across our district that are being funded by Melissa in this year’s budget. This includes roughly $1.8 million in projects related to our Participatory Budgeting initiative.
