El Barrio Week celebrates one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world with cultural events and programs that highlight the neighborhood’s unique characteristics and Latin American, Puerto Rican, and Caribbean cultural heritage. The signature events are “El Barrio Eats!” and “Shop El Barrio!”, a restaurant week for El Barrio and campaign to promote shopping locally respectively. There will also be the 116th Street Festival on Saturday and the National Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday.
Other highlights include the opening of La Casa Azul Bookstore on 103rd Street last weekend. The Museum Mile Festival will be next Tuesday, offering free access to the Museum for African Art, El Museo del Barrio, the Museum of the City of New York, and many others. The Museum of the City of New York’s “Activist East Harlem: Walking Tour” will be next Thursday and there will be Super Sabado! at El Museo del Barrio next Saturday, the 16th. Come enjoy all of what El Barrio has to offer.
